fringe benefits

Those of you who follow my tumblr might already know that I made a killing on a recent trip to Woodbury Common Premium Outlets in upstate NY, an unplanned stop on the way back to the city from a weekend of snowboarding. Here's part of my loot - Jil Sander fringe jacket, from the S/S 2009 collection by Raf Simons.

Original retail price: $1795
Clearance price: $280
"Take an additional 60% off clearance price" promotion:
BOOYAH! Now we're talking.  Beautiful Jil Sander runway piece for less than 20 Starbucks drinks? Yes please, wrap it up!

As expected, impeccable tailoring by Jil Sander:

This jacket was the pièce de résistance, but I also walked away with a pair of Balenciaga pants for $22 (no joke) from the same clearance rack and a beautiful silk blouse from the Chloé outlet 80% off retail. I highly recommend going to the outlets on a weekday if you can. There were tons of extra promotions going on that I've never seen on a weekend, probably to make up for the slower weekday traffic.

fashion desert

I've been experiencing "dejà vu" with my outfits lately, and this one is no exception, so if it's been a bit boring around here lately I do apologize. I did buy a few great pieces recently to spice up my wardrobe. I'll introduce them as soon as I finish up alterations - hemming, shortening sleeves, blah blah blah. Oh the life of a short girl!

I did have some fancier shoes on originally, but I decided it was too early in the day for sexytime. Kidding! (It's never too early for sexytime.) Actually I realized that I had two different colors on my toenails and fingernails so I swapped out the sandals for these dorky heeled desert boots. I liked the more casual feel.

Dance dance dance!

scheming

Thank you everyone for your advice RE: mixing metals. Although I can't see myself committing fully to it anytime soon, I think I should definitely relax when it comes to little things like hardware on shoes or belts.

This is what I wore today. I went to visit the Apple "geniuses" to pester them about the iPad2 launch this Friday. If an Apple employee says the store won't be getting the shipment until 5 pm, are they blatantly lying for the sake of crowd control? I should offer one of those broke college kids money to stand in line all day and save me a spot...

mixing metals

Milder temperatures last weekend allowed me to continue substituting a proper winter coat with layers of vests and jackets.

I've always been curious as to whether or not you guys mix metals when it comes to jewelry. I'm not very comfortable with it - I even go so far as to match the hardware on my shoes to my jewelry - but if I can get over the fear of mismatched metals I feel like I would have more outfit options. I think this is why I'm having such a difficult time finding sandals for summer - it seems like shoes have either gold or silver accent hardware and I would like a shoe that matches both. Thoughts? Am I crazy?
