nye

This is my current New Year's Eve outfit. Then again there are several hours before the festivities begin so who knows, I might just end up in jeans and a t-shirt! I am a big fan of shopping your own closet for special events. After all, one sign of a good wardrobe is that you don't have to go shopping every time something comes up, right?

Thank you all for sticking around and have a happy new year!

shine on

my camera is crap. (maybe Santa can do something about that for Christmas?) fortunately photo-editing software makes up for some of its inadequacies. the "softglow" filter on GIMP salvaged this outfit picture by making it appear way more well-lit than it actually was.

chanel jacket, chanel purse

i should also explain that i will be neglecting all my other boots until i wear these in to the perfect amount of slouchiness. it might take a couple of weeks.

p.s. i also updated the archive; the original was getting a bit unwieldy so i split it into fall/winter and spring/summer.

steppin' out...

... in my new H&M dress.

h&m dress, black lace dress

can't go wrong with a cheap dress - if someone (probably myself) spills a drink on me or i snag the lace while dancing, it's all good.

addendum

Photobucket

this post is sort of a footnote to the previous one. this is what i wore last saturday. when i go away for the weekend i usually bring: one pair of pants (which i usually wear on the train), a dress, a couple of tops, and one pair of shoes which i wear for the entire weekend. i choose either silver or gold jewelry and plan my outfits and handbag accordingly. i check the weather forecast to make sure i won't be, say, stuck in a thunderstorm wearing super-fancy shoes. i know some people like to have outfit choices when they go away for short trips, but i much prefer to pack light.

i guess my only gripe with Les Chiffoniers pants is that they all stretch out after a couple of wears - apologies for the saggy leather butt!

p.s. for those of you who asked, i received Dexter and American Psycho last week. apparently Netflix thinks i'm in a serial killer type of mood...

p.p.s. finally updated the archive.

p.p.p.s. i will try to retire these pants from the blog for at least five posts, lest you all think i wear nothing else! (though i could very easily live in them!)

default

this is my current default "night out" outfit. it's one of those outfits that i don't have to think about, i pretty much know it'll work. best of all, the hosiery, belt, and shoes are easily interchangeable.

Photobucket
Joie silk minidress (discounted from Bergdorf Goodman/NYC because the belt was missing); D&G lace leggings (old, from Century21/NYC); Balenciaga belt (from eBay); Biba over-the-knee boots (from eBay)

and this is my current default traveling outfit. with the exception of this past weekend when i got snowed in, i've gone home to nyc for holiday parties and other engagements so i've been on trains frequently this month.

Photobucket
T by Alexander Wang classic l/s tee worn under T by Alexander Wang striped linen blend tee (both from Barneys Co-op/Philly); American Apparel "winter" leggings; Miu Miu motorcycle boots (old, from mytheresa.com); extra-long cashmere scarf (two Portolano scarves from Filene's Basement sewn together)

the american apparel leggings were actually an emergency buy. i wore my leather pants on the train ride from philly to nyc and found them a little uncomfortable, plus they made a funny noise on the vinyl seats. so before heading back to philly i popped into american apparel and bought these winter leggings. if this stripe tee was a little more affordable i would have bought two, it's perfect for travel - comfortable but a little more interesting than the plain oversized tees i usually wear.

i'll be heading home to new york this thursday, but i did schedule some posts via draft.blogger.com so the blog won't be completely inactive while i'm away. enjoy the holidays everyone!!

ITEMS (rollover mouse to view detailed picture)
Martin Margiela miniskirt (from Century21)
Vivienne Westwood Red Label cotton drape top (from Century21)
Prada quilted evening bag (old, from eBay)

would have loved to wear my ysl tribtoo pumps, but one of my tackiness-prevention tactics is to not wear super high heels with miniskirts (except maybe in colder weather, with tights.) i ended up wearing a pair of lanvin flats, which was kind of a mistake because it was really hot and patent leather is not the most forgiving when your feet swell up. oh well, live and learn...

i think the music in the cab ride home was better than at brass monkey, but
really strong beer craving + proximity to pastis where we had dinner (is it weird that they always ask if you want french fries? i mean, i ordered a salad) + no cover = brass monkey

early summer, a gift from the weather gods.

lovely day yesterday, this was the perfect all day-to-all night outfit choice. without the tank underneath i probably would have spent the entire day checking to make sure i wasn't flashing anyone instead of simply enjoying the weather.

sunday, march 15th '09

here's what i wore last sunday, it was still rather cold out. this is a cute dress i picked up from the most recent Intermix warehouse sale. unfortunately, despite soaking it in oxy-clean for an entire day i could not get rid of the unidentified bluish stains on the shoulder. oh well, beggars can't be choosers. it was only $19 and i can always wear my hair down to hide the stain.

ITEMS (rollover to view detailed picture)
Bella minidress
Dolce Vita black suede over-the-knee boots
flea market necklace
extra long scarf made from two Portolano cashmere scarves
Veronique Branquinho corduroy military blazer (not pictured)

this dress does come with a belt but i think it's more appropriate for evening. i like this outfit, definitely a possibility for the upcoming weekend.
