the dark side

so it occurred to me the other day, especially after reading comments on the short questionnaire i filled out for fashionjinx, that my style has taken on a "darker" turn since my stylediary days. the word "grunge" and better yet, the phrase "dark edginess," have been thrown around.

while i don't mind it in the least, it just happens to be the style i am into at the moment, this upcoming weekend i vow to wear lacy/pretty/girly/softer things. this might be a little difficult with a big snowstorm predicted for friday evening, but i'll try!

"dark" is ok to describe my style - "predictable" is what i want to avoid! stay tuned...

(this was last Saturday's outfit: DRKSHDW fur-lined hooded sweatshirt; Rick Owens cashmere poncho with leather neck; Current/Elliot jeans with zippers going down the sides; ivory button-down shirt from Scoop; Mended Veil "snake biting crystal" necklace; Rick Owens boots; Chanel quilted purse with charms; and the skull ring was a new purchase that day, it is by Iossellani)

  1. Man, I don't know how I'd describe style beyond "amazing, unique, fantastic!"

  2. I think I wear a form of black/white/gray everyday. It just happens to be what I'm most comfortable in. I hope to stay away from "predictable" as well. But I believe there is absolutely nothing wrong with what you're wearing. I love all of it.

  3. The words that come to my mind when I think of your style are "freakin' amazing" You're my favorite blogger and such an inspiration!
p.s. you look so cute in that last picture!

  4. You finally showed your face! Well, at least part of it anyway. I have been following you since StyleDiary days and you have never once showed your face. It is just odd sometimes to see all of your pictures of your outfits, but then not to know how you look all together. Totally understand and respect your reasoning behind not doing it though, everybody has a right to their privacy.

Hope this doesn't come off as a stalkerish comment, I just thought it was surprising (in a nice way) to finally see your face!

  6. Beautiful, as always. The main reason why i keep checking your site is that you are never predictable, always new and always classy.
It is really nice to see your face, adds so much to this post!

  7. I think your dark aesthetic was a definitely a natural progression from your Stylediary days. Maybe it's just a consequence of living in the east coast that you're always bundled up in so much delicious Vince and Rick Owens. You should lighten up for summer! I miss seeing those neutral Patrizia Pepe and Paola Frani skirts that seem to have disappeared from your wardrobe!

  8. This is absolutely my favorite blog - I'm really liking where your style is moving, also. Definitely dark, but incredibly interesting, especially the dark layering. But I, like the above person, do miss all the light, airy layering pieces! I calk it up to a symptom of winter.

  9. I love the questionnaire.
You are never predictable, yet your style is so defined. Not a bad thing. xx

  11. i hear ya. i started my blog with a fairly feminine feel, but then went through a pretty long dark and heavy phase. eh, perhaps it's not even a phase, but i'm trying to step back into wearing whatever makes me happy again :) regardless, this is a brilliant look. i heart this.

  14. -we have a name here in St. Louis that describes your style to a T.... we call it dirty rock....a mix for upscale, grunge and punk....

  15. somehow i don't like the term 'grunge'. reminds me of the 90s--not the good parts, either--and the trendiness thereof.
dark, i'll go with. i like dark. and i think you do it very well. your closet is tailored to be very versatile though and i think you've equipped yourself to be quite the style chameleon. enjoy not being 'boxed'!
