finally uploaded a picture of an outfit from a couple of weekends ago, i know some of you have been curious as to how i would style this Gareth Pugh vest. i wish i could go all out and wear it the way the designer would have styled it, but in the end i just really want to be comfortable and functional. i also wore it recently over an old ann demeulemeester dress and it worked really well, i'm sure i'll be sharing that outfit in the future.
some recent office outfits. i'm a prepster at work. apologies for the dirty mirror, i think they only clean it about once a week.
a lot of Theory involved, including a pair of black pants which i did not realize were so ill-fitting until i looked at these pictures. i like Theory for work though, you can always find it in discount stores like filene's basement. also my iPod and Dunkin' Donuts coffee in the first picture - two things that make my rush hour subway commute a little more bearable. add my wallet, crackberry, one or two flash drives, benetint lip balm, kiehl's eye stick, snacks (usually fruits and mini chocolove bars), and a folder or two of random documents and you'll get an idea of what's in my bag.
this weekend i picked up a really cool ysl tee. i don't wear a lot of logo, but something about the upside-down, slightly askew eiffel tower on the "Y" made me smile.
as with all things i buy at retail, i try to make sure that i can come up with at least five outfits that incorporate things i already have in my closet. i know it's just a t-shirt, but it's my way of avoiding impulse purchases. i'm trying to build a wardrobe, not trying to amass tons of clothing. i once forced myself to return a beautiful (and expensive) vivienne westwood anglomania blouse because the things i thought would match it didn't quite work out when i brought it home. i started saying things like "well, i just have to find the right camisole for it, then i should buy a cute high-waisted skirt, and some new chunky heels..." then i just started amassing all these new purchases in my head and knew it wouldn't work out. it would sit in my closet until i found the right things to wear.
here's another thing that made my smile this week, but it might just be because i'm addicted to BloombergTV... (from xkcd.com)
phew! busy weekend. since i didn't take any pictures this weekend, i thought i'd share this older one from when i was playing around with my new super-soft modal scarf. it's always good to have a store of images to fall back on for those days when you have no clue what to wear! maybe the combination of daylight savings time and boss going on vacation next week will allow me to get home at a decent hour and snap some pictures in natural light (clothes look awful when i use a flash.)
here's what i wore last sunday, it was still rather cold out. this is a cute dress i picked up from the most recent Intermix warehouse sale. unfortunately, despite soaking it in oxy-clean for an entire day i could not get rid of the unidentified bluish stains on the shoulder. oh well, beggars can't be choosers. it was only $19 and i can always wear my hair down to hide the stain.
woot! new purchase! rick owens lilies asymmetrical zipper lightweight jacket. i remember i had bookmarked this on net-a-porter for the longest time waiting for the price to drop to an acceptable level, which of course it never did, since NAP sales generally suck. however i did find this jacket for an acceptable (though not bargain) price at Century21. the colors don't quite match - i think the top is "stone" and the skirt is "pearl" or vice versa, but whatevs, close enough...
today's outfit included another new purchase, gareth pugh vest/breastplate/body armor (this i did find for a bargain price!) but i did not have time to take a decent outfit picture. will post later.
p.s. i found the full-length mirror in my office building, it's in the bathroom that's two floors below mine, so i'll have some new work outfits posted in the near future.
these pants are one of several fabulous pieces i nabbed for a steal at the Intermix warehouse sale. and doh! i forgot to take a closeup picture of my watch again, i know someone had asked about it.
ack! did anyone else have trouble figuring out what to wear today?! it's so exciting when the weather shifts, suddenly it feels like i have so many options! finally decided on this...
this Free People lace bandeau is a great alternative to the "no bra" look that works so well for editorials but doesn't really work in real life if you've got boobs (and/or ride the subway on a daily basis!). i still wear a bra underneath for support, but the lace is so much prettier under sheer tanks and tees. i have one in black as well.
prompted by brookandlyn's comment on my last post, here are some random work outfits from my archive of photos for posting on thefashionspot. they have since taken down the mirror in this private bathroom (i'm not sure why - i few tenants have moved out of our floor in the building since the downturn so maybe they moved it to a different floor that has more tenants), so i haven't taken any pictures recently.
p.s. lots of items in this post, but if you're curious about anything in particular, just ask.
p.p.s. if you asked me a question via comment, i probably replied via comment as well so just check the post comments! thanks.
didn't leave the house yesterday except to go for a run, but here's what i wore two sundays ago. would have preferred the chanels, but the rainy weather did not permit.
