things that make me smile **warning: picture heavy**

this weekend i picked up a really cool ysl tee. i don't wear a lot of logo, but something about the upside-down, slightly askew eiffel tower on the "Y" made me smile.

as with all things i buy at retail, i try to make sure that i can come up with at least five outfits that incorporate things i already have in my closet. i know it's just a t-shirt, but it's my way of avoiding impulse purchases. i'm trying to build a wardrobe, not trying to amass tons of clothing. i once forced myself to return a beautiful (and expensive) vivienne westwood anglomania blouse because the things i thought would match it didn't quite work out when i brought it home. i started saying things like "well, i just have to find the right camisole for it, then i should buy a cute high-waisted skirt, and some new chunky heels..." then i just started amassing all these new purchases in my head and knew it wouldn't work out. it would sit in my closet until i found the right things to wear.

here's another thing that made my smile this week, but it might just be because i'm addicted to BloombergTV... (from xkcd.com)

  1. I love every single outfit. And I love the idea of only buying something that you can pair with clothes already hanging in your closet. I'm definitely guilty of purchasing something than following that up with another 3 buys because I needed them to go with that one item.

  3. hey, sorry a few quick questions about your Tribtoos...where did you get them? Are these the 4" ones? And how truly comfortable are they (realistically for us NYers who take the subway...). Thanks in advance!

  5. I love the detail on that! Definitely a good idea with the 5 outfit thing, although I'm not sure if I'd have had the heart to return the blouse, so well done!

  6. carmela, i've only used the Tribtoos at night to go out. i wouldn't recommend them for wear during the day if you'll be doing a lot of walking. they're pretty comfortable if you're just kind of barhopping in one area, not moving about from one end of the city to another. i wouldn't consider them walking shoes, but if you're going to wear them just for a few hours in the evening, they're relatively comfortable. the non-patent ones are probably more comfortable, my patent leather ones haven't really molded to my feet, they're still pretty stiff. i love them as a "going out" shoe, they're perfect with everything!
